![]() 2008 ALMS RS Spyder of Penske Racing had the fastest qualifying time in the LMP2 class. Even though qualifying was interrupted by an accident, the 2008 season of the American Le Mans Series is set to kick off this weekend, with Porsche RS Spyder's hoping to repeat last season's successes. Hoping to steal some of their thunder, Acura's ARX has had a productive off-season and should give the RS Spyder's a run for their money. The accident during qualifying happened shortly after it began with the starting grid determined from the best lap times from all of the practice sessions. Qualifying was red-flagged when Ben Devlin crashed in the first turn, his Mazda Lola coming to rest on top of the tire wall. Time on the 25-minute session expired, with IMSA rules disregarding the entire qualifying session and determining the starting grid. Penske's #7 Porsche RS Spyder had fastest qualifying time in the LMP2 class and will be in the second row behind the faster LMP1 cars. In the GT2 class, Flying Lizard Motorsports had the third quickest time in their GT3 RSR. The Mobil1 Twelve Hours of Sebring begins Saturday at 10am local time.
