![]() The RS Spyder's of Penske Racing look for a repeat in Salt Lake City this weekend. Round 4 of the 2008 American Le Mans Series Porsche looks to build on it's points lead as they and the rest of the ALMS teams take to the MillerMotorsport Park for this Sunday's Utah Grand Prix. You can catch the race on the Speed Channel which begins at 1PM local time. The circuit has changed a bit from last year's race as the track has been shortened from just over 7km to about 5km. Porsche's drivers still consider it one of the more demanding courses of the year where it's twisting turns should benefit the RS Spyder's. “A great track. Despite the shortening of the circuit there are still a lot of corners which suits us very well. But you also drive on the long straight more often and that is certainly not to our advantage,” said Penske driver Sascha Maassen. He and teammate Patrick Long won on the overall victory on this track last year. Testing for this race began before Long Beach, with the drivers and Porsche engineers working to find the best set-up for the revised track. Sascha Maassen talked about the change from the previous city circuits to the wide open Utah track. “On a city circuit you are more mentally stressed because you know exactly where you must not make a mistake otherwise you end up in the wall.” He added, “As a contrast you’ve got a lot of corners on this circuit with correspondingly high lateral acceleration. It doesn’t matter how well you have trained – after a couple of corners your neck hurts.” “We are on the right track. The test was promising and our car feels very good. Still, we will have to work hard during the practice to sort out some final details.” |
