![]() With only 777 slated for production, the limited-edition Cayman S should hit showrooms in November. Calling on the expertise of its own Design Studio, Porsche has introduced a limited-edition Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1”. In addition to riding ten millimeters lower than the standard Cayman, the limited-edition Cayman S takes on the 19-inch turbo wheels with 235/35 ZR 19 tires at the front and 265/35 ZR 19 tires at the rear. Something that Porsche doesn't talk about in their press release is the addition of the exterior graphics on the car. Were these added merely as part of the cars introduction or are the graphics standard "equipment"? Ridestory touched on Porsche styling recently when the new 911 GT2 was introduced. Their discussion centered around Porsche's inclusion of a few extra vents, especially at the rear of the car. A similar vein can be taken up with this limited-edition Cayman S. In addition to stripes down the center of the limited-edition Cayman S, Porsche has added “Porsche Design Edition 1” graphics to the sides of the car. Now, it's not unusual for Porsche to ad visual cues to its cars to denote a model or level of performance, as indicated by today's 911 GT3 RS and previous RS models. But in this case it just seems too much. Why clutter up the car's outstanding styling? Porsche doesn't need to draw attention or announce itself to the world. They are known for what they do best and that's developing high performance sports cars. Being subtle will only help support that reputation. Look for this new Cayman S in November. Buy you'll have to hurry. Porsche is limiting the production run to 777. |
