Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland
On the podium following the first Cup race of the season is Chris Mamerow, René Rast and Nicolas Armindo.

The first race of the Porsche-only series proved to be a gripping affair, as René Rast and Chris Mamerow, both of Germany, played tag all race long. Mamerow pulled alongside Rast five times but could never get past him. Rast won with Mamerow just two-tenths of a second behind.

This is the series second season and if the first event at the Hockenheimring is any indication, competition should be fierce. A field devoted to Porsche Cup cars means the hardware is nearly equal. Skill and a driver’s willingness to take some chances may prove fruitful in the winners circle.

“That was a fantastic race. I stood on pole, made a superb start and held on to the lead. The duel with Chris was great fun. But by the end I was very pleased to cross the finish line first,” Rast said. Mamerow tipped his hat to Rast but looks forward to the next race.

“René drove a clever race. I was actually the faster of us two, but I didn’t find the opportunity to get past him. We had a great and fair fight. It was fun. Next weekend is another story: new race, new chance,” he said.

The next race is this Sunday, April 20th, at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

Race results:

1. René Rast (D), MRS Team PZ Aschaffenburg, 31:33.672 minutes (156.519 kph)
