Porsche's RS Spyder has six class wins so far this season, including five victories in a row.
With five victories in a row and six class wins so far this season, the Penske Motorsports and Dyson Racing RS Spyder's prepare to take on the eighth round of the American Le Mans Series at Elkhart Lake this weekend.
With those six victories, Porsche has a comfortable lead in the LMP2 class and should have no problem wrapping up the season with the title.
This weekend's ALMS race shares the Road America course with the Champ Car Series. Race fans will be able to watch the ALMS on Saturday and Champ Car on Sunday.
Many people, including all of us here at Porsche360, didn't expect Porsche and the RS Spyder to be this successful this soon.
Porsche officially pulled out of auto racing in 1998 following the 911 GT1's overall victory at Le Mans. Porsche went on to support customer racing and the Manufacturer's Cups. Wanting to extend beyond GT racing, Porsche began working on a racing prototype for the LMP2 category in the American Le Mans Series. After development and testing throughout 2005 and forming the exclusive partnership with Penske Motorsports, the RS Spyder was officially rolled out in June 2005 followed by a successful racing debut in October 2005.
Partnering with Penske has obviously played a major part in Porsche's success. Penske is well known in victory lane and Porsche has taken advantage of he and his teams knowledge.
