2007 Salt Lake City winners

Round 4 of the 2008 American Le Mans Series

Porsche looks to build on it's points lead as they and the rest of the ALMS teams take to the Miller Motorsport Park for this Sunday's Utah Grand Prix. You can catch the race on the Speed Channel which begins at 1PM local time.

The circuit has changed a bit from last year's race as the track has been shortened from just over 7km to about 5km. Porsche's drivers still consider it one of the more demanding courses of the year where it's twisting turns should benefit the RS Spyder's.

“A great track. Despite the shortening of the circuit there are still a lot of corners which suits us very well. But you also drive on the long straight more often and that is certainly not to our advantage,” said Penske driver Sascha Maassen.

Penske’s No. 6 RS Spyder fastest after Thursday testing

ALMS Long Beach

The streets of Long Beach came alive Thursday afternoon during the first afternoon test in the history of the Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Penske Racing’s No. 6 Porsche RS Spyder topped the timing charts after two hours of testing. Porsche Works drivers Sascha Maassen and Patrick Long led all LMP2 cars wtih a time of 1:12.986 at 97.071 mph.

So far this season, the RS Spyders have won both races of the young 2008 ALMS season with Long Beach up next this weekend. With Hollywood’s influence, the Grand Prix of Long Beach has at times been compared to the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco. Formula 1 may not like the comparison, but the sun, sand and surf of California does hold some influence.

Porsche dominated the podium at last year's Long Beach race by finishing 1-2-3.

Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland proves exciting
Written by Andrew, Editor, Porsche360.com

Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland The first race of the Porsche-only series proved to be a gripping affair, as René Rast and Chris Mamerow, both of Germany, played tag all race long. Mamerow pulled alongside Rast five times but could never get past him. Rast won with Mamerow just two-tenths of a second behind.

This is the series second season and if the first event at the Hockenheimring is any indication, competition should be fierce. A field devoted to Porsche Cup cars means the hardware is nearly equal. Skill and a driver’s willingness to take some chances may prove fruitful in the winners circle.

Porsche driver Sascha MaassenHere's a great look at the Long Beach road course courtesy of Porsche works driver Sascha Maassen.

This is a great look at what the Porsche ALMS drivers will be facing next weekend. It's interesting how Maassen points out that on this one course is the tightest turn and the longest straight of the ALMS season.
